Alibaba Unveils Qwen Book AI-Native Notebook and Invests $3 Million in Omarchy OS
The Qwen Book is built around the "OS as Harness" philosophy, deeply integrating hardware, software, and cloud services. It comes pre-integrated with Qwen3.8-Max and Qwen3.8-Flash models. Key hardware features include an "AI button" on the keyboard for instant AI activation and "AI Island," a dedicated status screen for real-time task tracking. The stylus pen also supports voice recognition for direct interaction with AI agents.
To support this hardware ecosystem, Alibaba Cloud has committed $3 million over three years to the Omarchy Foundation. This investment aims to optimize the Omarchy Linux distribution—a project developed by David Heinemeier Hansson—to serve as the ideal operating system for agentic computing. The Qwen Book will run an optimized version of Omarchy OS, which integrates low-power Agent Engines and Continuous Context Engines to ensure seamless interaction between the user, the models, and the OS.
The first release of the Qwen Book is expected to be based on the ARM architecture, though the system is designed to be compatible with both ARM and x86.
