This integration allows third-party AI agents—including Claude, Hermes, and Open Claw—to securely access device data, monitor event history, and control connected devices within the Google Home ecosystem.

According to Taylor Lehman, group product manager at Google Home & Nest, the integration enables agents to perform complex tasks by reasoning across home data. Capabilities include analyzing cross-camera footage, tracking device usage history, and interacting via voice through Google Home speakers. The feature is intended to move smart homes from simple command-and-control systems toward more proactive, contextual intelligence.
This integration acts as a separate layer of control alongside Gemini for Home, which remains the primary interface via the Home app and Nest speakers. By adopting MCP, Google positions its smart home infrastructure as a platform for various consumer-facing AI services.
At launch, the feature will be available to Google Home Premium Advanced users in the United States ($20/month or $200/year), with a rollout expected in the coming weeks. Setup requires the creation of a Google Cloud project. To manage security, Google stated that Home MCP enforces rate limits and safety protections, such as preventing agents from unlocking doors.
