Meta Announces AI-Powered Game Creation Tools for Horizon Platform

The company plans to increase the reach of published games by integrating them with Facebook and Instagram. According to Meta, users will be able to enter multiplayer sessions directly from their feeds without needing to download separate apps. Engaging and stable games that are culturally relevant will receive increased recommendation reach within these social networks.

This move follows Meta's recent strategic pivot toward mobile and aligns with similar AI-driven development pushes from competitors like Roblox. While Horizon has previously struggled with user growth—with reports indicating approximately 300,000 monthly users in early 2022—Meta aims to leverage its existing social media ecosystem to drive engagement on the platform.

While AI tools lower the barrier to game creation, the barrier to consumption has remained a critical obstacle for Horizon's growth. Compared to Roblox, which maintains 123 million daily active users, Horizon has struggled to gain similar traction, with monthly users reported at approximately 300,000 in early 2022.

To address this disparity, Meta is removing the friction associated with the traditional app installation process. By allowing games to live natively within Facebook and Instagram feeds, users can enter a multiplayer session within seconds of seeing a clip, bypassing the need for separate downloads or redirects.
