At the annual Made on YouTube event, YouTube announced updates to its suite of AI-powered creator tools, expanding on the features first unveiled in 2025. The update introduces more complex automation and testing capabilities designed to help creators optimize their content.

YouTube introduces AI "agent" and advanced testing tools for creators
PLUS ULTRA by Amenoyomi
A key addition is an AI "agent" that operates in the background to optimize a creator's channel. According to Amjad Hanif, YouTube's vice president of creator products, the agent can monitor a creator's back catalog to identify videos that have become relevant to current news or trends, then suggest tweaks to thumbnails or titles. The agent can also assist with brand pitches by compiling demographic and audience data from a creator's channel to build a case for potential sponsors.
The update also introduces more sophisticated testing features via YouTube Studio. A dynamic thumbnail tool allows creators to upload up to three different images for a single video, with the system assigning them to different audience segments to see which one maximizes watch time. Additionally, creators can test up to three different versions of a video—such as clips with different intros or structures—to see how each performs. Creators can then choose the winner to make it the permanent video, or YouTube will automatically do so after seven days. YouTube noted that the system ensures these video versions are not "dramatically different" from one another.
While the use of AI in content creation remains a sensitive issue for many, Hanif emphasized that these tools are meant to increase efficiency rather than replace the creator's role. "What I’ve heard from creators and what I've seen from my own conversations with viewers is that when it feels like it's not actually from the creator, but the tools have taken over... that's kind of where it crosses the line," Hanif said. While YouTube declined to share specific data on whether the tools improve viewer metrics, Hanif stated the primary benefit is saving creators time to focus on creativity.

These tools shift the creator's operational role from attempting to "crack" the algorithm through intuition to following direct, data-driven guidance provided by the platform.
The AI agent optimizes channel growth by monitoring back catalogs to identify older content that has become relevant to current news or trends. By suggesting updates to titles and thumbnails for these videos, the system allows creators to capitalize on new waves of relevance without manual auditing. The agent further streamlines business operations by synthesizing demographic and audience data into structured pitches for potential sponsors.
Performance optimization is systematized through A/B testing of specific content elements. The dynamic thumbnail tool tests up to three images across different audience segments to identify which one maximizes watch time. Similarly, creators can test three versions of a video—varying the intro, hook, or overall structure—to determine which version performs best. YouTube's system identifies a "winner" based on watch time, which the creator can then make permanent or allow the system to finalize automatically after seven days.
According to Amjad Hanif, this framework distinguishes between AI-driven efficiency and AI-driven creation. While the tools handle the analytical task of optimization, the creative core—including scriptwriting and filming—remains the responsibility of the creator. This design aims to return time spent on operational trial-and-error back to the creative process.
