In proprietary benchmarks conducted by the developers, Hemmingway-1 outperformed several major models in communication-specific tasks. Specifically, it scored 50 points higher than GPT-6 Astra and surpassed Fable 5.1 in head-to-head testing. The developers also reported high performance in "human-likeness" tests, where the model's output was more frequently identified as human-written compared to its competitors.
The model demonstrates specific strengths in administrative, work-related, and persuasive communication. In "hard ask" scenarios—tasks requiring significant rewriting—Hemmingway-1 achieved a 72% human-likeness score, significantly higher than the 9% reported for GPT-6 Astra. It also placed third in the public EQ-Bench 4, an emotional intelligence benchmark, following GPT-5.5 and Opus 4.7.
Hemmingway-1 supports a context window of 262,144 tokens. While highly effective for prose and communication, the developers noted that the model is less optimized for hostile storytelling and long story turns compared to dedicated storytelling models. The model is English-first and is intended for general use, though the developers caution against its use for critical medical, legal, or financial decisions.
