Google Launches AI Image Generation and Editing Tool Google Pics

The tool is based on the image generation and editing model "Nano Banana." It is designed for tasks such as poster design, creating images for social media posts, and editing digital illustrations. In addition to being offered as a standalone product, it will be integrated into Workspace apps including Google Slides, Google Docs, and Google Drive.

There are two ways to use the tool: via a standalone web app (pics.new) and through integrated features within Workspace apps. Images created will be automatically synchronized across platforms. Integration into Docs and Slides began simultaneously with the announcement, and deployment to Drive is expected within a few weeks.

Key features include "object segmentation," which allows users to isolate and transform specific objects within an image. Users can also provide text instructions to modify specific areas or execute multiple edits simultaneously. Regarding text within images, corrections and translations can be performed without disrupting the design or font.

Created images can be shared with colleagues and friends for collaborative editing. The tool also features the ability to generate multiple variations from a single prompt. In addition to new generation from text prompts, users can edit existing images by uploading them from Drive, Photos, or a local environment.

Google explained the difference between Pics and Google Photos, stating that Pics is a production tool within Workspace, whereas Photos is a place for handling personal memories.
