Google has launched Guided Vision within Gemini Live on compatible Android devices, enabling users to receive real-time audio descriptions of objects and surroundings by pointing their phone's camera at them.
Google launches Guided Vision for Gemini Live to assist users with low vision
Designed primarily for people who are blind or have low vision, the feature allows users to ask follow-up questions about what the camera is seeing. For example, a user can ask Gemini to read an expiration date on a specific item. To assist with camera alignment, Google stated that Gemini will provide audio cues if the requested object is not currently in the camera's shot.
Guided Vision is available through the Gemini app and Google TalkBack. On devices running Android 9 and above, users can also access the feature via an accessibility shortcut in the Settings app.
While the tool can assist with tasks like reading small text or identifying objects, Google cautioned users not to rely on Guided Vision for navigation, safe-travel guidance, obstacle detection, or as a replacement for physical mobility aids such as canes.
