Earendil has announced the release of Pi 1.0, a hardened, minimal, and extensible agent harness. The software is designed to serve as a stable substrate for building agentic applications, incorporating feedback from its existing user base to improve its functionality and stability.
Earendil releases Pi 1.0 and experimental Pi Durable agent harness
Alongside this release, Earendil is introducing Pi Durable, an experimental package. While the standard Pi coding agent focuses on single-person interactions within a terminal, Pi Durable is designed for building long-running, durable, and malleable agentic applications. This new framework allows multiple users to observe and steer the same conversations and aims to make agent technology accessible outside of traditional coding environments and terminals.
Pi Durable operates as a harness that manages storage and the machinery required to run conversations with large language models in parallel. It includes built-in support for SQLite and JSONL storage, as well as a Node execution environment. The system is designed to allow agents to survive process interruptions, such as a machine running out of memory or a container being redeployed, by picking up from the last recorded state.
Both Pi 1.0 and the experimental Pi Durable packages are released under the MIT license. The tools are available for installation via npm, and the source code is hosted on GitHub.
