Hearing tech startup Legato launches AI-powered hearing assistance glasses

Hearing tech startup Legato announced on Thursday that its flagship AI-based hearing glasses, Legato Frames, are now available for purchase. The device integrates the company's patented SpeechSense™ AI technology into the arms of eyewear frames to assist users with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Unlike traditional hearing aids that often rely on directional microphones, Legato's system uses AI to distinguish voices from background noise, amplifying speech while reducing unwanted sounds. The frames utilize an open-ear design with a dual-speaker system that directs sound toward the wearer and cancels sound leakage, reportedly reducing escaping sound by 99% just a few inches from the ear. All audio processing occurs directly on the glasses without the use of cameras or recording devices.

Legato Frames weigh 34 grams with lenses and offer a battery life of 10 to 12 hours. The glasses are available in three styles, support prescription lenses, and include Bluetooth streaming for music and calls.

The launch follows a $12 million funding round from Neotribe Ventures, Listen, and Village Global. Legato was founded in 2024 by Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine, who previously held leadership roles at Bose and Audicus. The glasses are available through the company's website and select U.S. eye care providers, where they are eligible for vision insurance coverage.
