OpenAI partners with OATS to host AI skills workshops for older adults
The workshops target 1,000 older adults across 10 U.S. cities. The initiative is part of a multi-year effort with OATS to build practical AI skills through the Senior Planet program. Data shows an increase in ChatGPT usage among individuals aged 55 and older in the U.S., with the share of messages associated with this demographic growing from 6% to nearly 10% over one year.
Online safety is a primary focus of the curriculum. The training includes guidance on identifying scams by using ChatGPT as a tool for scrutiny. Participants are taught to evaluate suspicious messages, emails, and websites by applying a "pause, think, and ask" approach. This education is part of OpenAI's broader initiatives to prevent and disrupt fraud online.
