OpenAI Introduces Analytics Tools in ChatGPT Admin Console to Measure Business Value

OpenAI has introduced new analytics and management capabilities within the ChatGPT Admin Console, designed to help organizations understand how teams utilize ChatGPT Work and Codex and how those activities translate into measurable business value.

The updated Admin Console provides visibility into usage and cost data, task insights, and outcome metrics. Usage analytics allow administrators to monitor adoption rates and spending, helping to identify where support or training may be required. By filtering by specific groups or users, admins can pinpoint areas where AI adoption is low and adjust workflows accordingly.

A new task classifier within the Insights feature categorizes messages into specific use cases, such as software engineering or sales and revenue planning. This allows administrators to see which tasks—such as feature development or account research—are consuming the most credits. Additionally, users can evaluate specific settings by reviewing breakdowns of model selection, reasoning, and speed, helping to ensure the configured tools are appropriate for the intended tasks.

For engineering teams, the Outcomes view tracks Codex's contributions to merged code commits and lines of code. This enables leaders to compare AI usage against metrics such as review time, defects, and rework to assess its impact on software delivery efficiency.

To support decision-making, the Admin plugin can generate reports for budget and rollout planning, including summary decks with charts and recommended next steps. For organizations requiring more integration, the Admin API allows teams to automate these reports and combine usage data with internal business-system metrics, such as ticket resolution times.
