Supabase to Acquire Turso to Scale Database Infrastructure for AI Agents

Supabase is acquiring Turso to evolve database infrastructure in response to the growing demand from AI agents, which are increasingly spinning up millions of individual databases for prototypes and applications.

Under the new structure, Supabase will continue its focus on Postgres, while Turso will continue its work on SQLite. The acquisition aims to leverage Turso's specialized architecture—which utilizes Rust-based SQLite to manage millions of databases on a single server—to provide on-demand, cost-effective database provisioning. This approach is designed to meet the needs of agentic AI, where databases must be as easy to create as files and capable of scaling from small workloads to production environments.

As part of the transition, Turso team members Glauber Costa and Pekka Enberg will join Supabase, with Costa leading the company's agentic infrastructure efforts. For existing Turso users, the company stated that no changes will occur to their current services.
