DIY home security company SimpliSafe has launched its Video Doorbell Series 2, priced at $199.99. The new device supports the company's Active Guard service, which begins at $49.99 per month, combining AI-based analysis with live human intervention to respond to security threats.

SimpliSafe Launches Video Doorbell Series 2 with AI-Powered Active Guard Monitoring
The doorbell utilizes a combination of on-device AI, cloud-based computer vision, and facial recognition to detect suspicious activity. When a threat is identified, a SimpliSafe monitoring agent can access the live feed to see, speak, and attempt to deter potential intruders or package thieves via two-way audio. The agent can also activate the camera's siren and spotlight.
Technically, the wired doorbell features 2K resolution, a 150-degree field of view, 10x zoom, two-way audio, and a built-in siren. It supports dual-band Wi-Fi and provides smart alerts for people and packages. To use the Active Guard features, users require a SimpliSafe base station and must subscribe to a Pro or Plus monitoring plan.
SimpliSafe stated that footage is encrypted during transit and at rest, though it is not end-to-end encrypted. The company also noted that camera footage is not shared with law enforcement unless required by law.
