Google released the Gemini app for Windows on September 10, 2026, for users of Windows 10 and 11. The application is designed to provide instant AI assistance directly from the desktop via the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut, allowing users to call Gemini over their active work windows.
Google Launches Gemini App for Windows 10 and 11
The app enables various AI-driven tasks, including drafting documents, summarizing information from Google Drive and Gmail, and creating images using Nano Banana. Users can also access advanced features such as Gemini Omni for video generation and Gemini Spark, a personal AI agent capable of managing multi-step tasks. Access to Gemini Spark and Gemini Omni requires a Google AI subscription.
Designed to be lightweight, the app runs in the background without impacting PC performance. Google stated that this Windows release is the starting point for expanding native desktop capabilities for Gemini.
