An increasing number of AI agents are enabling users to complete tasks through text messaging services, such as SMS or messaging apps, rather than requiring the download of dedicated applications. These agents can access context, connect to existing apps and services, and perform various tasks including scheduling appointments, organizing calendars, and making reservations.
Several notable agents are currently active in this space. Instinct, which reached a $10 billion valuation following a $1 billion funding round in September 2026, allows users to communicate via text or voice to manage tasks such as grocery shopping and booking tickets. The company has also begun providing dedicated email addresses for its assistants to manage accounts on behalf of users.
Other specialized agents include Caddy, which integrates with iMessage and RCS to turn scattered phone information into actionable items like calendar events or reminders. For families, Fambot and Ollie provide coordination for school communications and household tasks, with Ollie distinguishing itself through SOC 2 security compliance.
Travel-focused agent Miso utilizes iMessage to combine AI planning with support from a dedicated travel team. In the professional and personal productivity sectors, agents offer diverse features: Martin manages communications and can make phone calls; Rene can write code and handle tasks; and Wajo's Fo uses its own email, phone number, and payment card to handle bookings and purchases.
