Anthropic will spend $11.6 billion over the next seven years on Akamai’s cloud infrastructure, Akamai announced on Thursday. This agreement is more than six times the size of a $1.8 billion deal reported between the two companies in May.

Anthropic to spend $11.6 billion on Akamai cloud infrastructure over seven years
The contract is the largest in Akamai's history. According to Akamai's securities filing, the commitment is subject to Akamai meeting specific delivery and service-availability requirements, and both parties retain the right to end the agreement under certain conditions.
In a notable departure from typical circular AI deals where suppliers invest in AI labs, Akamai has issued Anthropic a warrant. This gives Anthropic the right to purchase nonvoting preferred stock convertible into up to approximately 7.7 million common shares, or about 5% of the company’s outstanding stock, at $111.33 per share.
The deal includes milestones that could expand the total value. An additional $3 billion in spending by Anthropic would unlock roughly another 1% stake, potentially growing the total commitment to approximately $20 billion.
The deal marks a significant bet on CPU-based infrastructure. While Akamai did not specify the exact use case, demand for CPUs—general-purpose chips used for various computing tasks—has grown alongside the rise of AI agents.
To support the capacity required for this deal, Akamai expects to spend about $5.5 billion. The company also anticipates adding $1.7 billion to this year's capital spending to pre-purchase components such as memory. Regarding revenue, Akamai executives stated during an investor call that they expect between $150 million and $300 million in the second half of 2027, with annual revenue projected to reach a pace of approximately $1.7 billion by the end of 2028.
