In a recent interview, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince addressed the evolving challenges posed by AI, specifically regarding web traffic and internal organization. Cloudflare reported in June that bots account for more than half of all internet traffic, a figure that continues to rise as AI companies increase web scraping and AI agents perform automated tasks on behalf of users.
Cloudflare CEO discusses AI bot control and internal management tools
To address this, Cloudflare provides website owners with tools to control bot access, allowing them to block AI tools entirely, permit them, or restrict access to those willing to pay for it.
Internally, Cloudflare is utilizing AI to enhance management capabilities. Following layoffs of approximately 1,000 employees earlier this year, Prince discussed how the company uses data-driven models to analyze performance. Rather than replacing managers, the company aims to use AI as an "independent outside lens" to help leaders recognize high-performing employees, particularly junior staff, and identify those needing more resources. Prince emphasized that these tools are intended to provide better visibility into employee contributions rather than automating decision-making entirely.
