Mozilla and Mistral have announced a partnership to integrate Mistral’s models into Firefox Smart Window, Mozilla’s AI-powered browsing assistant. The partnership aims to provide users with privacy-conscious AI capabilities that emphasize user control and openness.

Mozilla’s Firefox Smart Window to be powered by Mistral models
Firefox Smart Window, which is currently in beta, helps users manage complex browsing tasks by remembering important information and summarizing content from open tabs. The service is rolling out in North America and France, with the United Kingdom and Germany expected to follow later this year.
Through this collaboration, Mistral will provide the underlying AI technology for Smart Window. To support regional relevance, Mistral is fine-tuning its models on local languages and cultural contexts. As part of the privacy-first approach, Mozilla stated that conversations are not saved on its servers by default, and Mistral has agreed to a zero data retention policy.
In addition to Mistral, Firefox Smart Window has partnered with Exa to retrieve current web information and provide sources for its responses. Mozilla's CEO, Anthony Enzor-DeMeo, noted that the goal is to prevent users from being tied to a single company's AI pipeline by allowing different providers to compete within the browser.
