linuxrebel has released "DocuBrowser," a tool designed to assist in document management using local AI.
The tool supports a wide range of file formats, including PDF, Word, e-books (EPUB, MOBI, etc.), and text files.
In addition to keyword search, the search functionality includes semantic search, which allows users to find documents with similar meanings even if specific words do not match. It also features "Deep Links," enabling users to jump directly to the relevant page, line, or section from the search results.
Regarding the summarization feature, it is possible to generate summaries using Ollama's dolphin3 model.
On the security front, the software includes a feature to detect personally identifiable information (PII), such as credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and passport numbers during scanning. Users can choose whether to exclude detected information from the search index. However, the developer stated that since this is a check of the summarization portion, it may not detect all personal information within the document.
Currently, the tool does not officially support Japanese. Because features such as search and summarization are tuned for English, results may not meet expectations when used with Japanese documents.
