Berlin-based Restate Secures $20M Series A to Bolster Durable Infrastructure for AI Agents

Berlin-based startup Restate has secured $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures, the company announced on September 30, 2026.

The funding comes as the demand for durable infrastructure increases with the rise of AI agents. Unlike traditional software, AI agent workflows often run longer and follow unpredictable paths, requiring execution engines that can remain resilient to network interruptions and crashes. Restate provides a durable execution runtime that ensures if a process fails mid-way, the system can automatically recover and resume from the last successful step.

Co-founder Stephen Ewan, who previously co-created the Apache Flink stream-processing framework, noted that while the platform was not originally built for agents, its capabilities are a "perfect match" for the problems they present. Restate's architecture is designed to be fast and lightweight, utilizing its own storage, replication, and redundancy layers rather than relying on an external database. This design allows it to provide low-latency durable actions.

The company has already attracted high-profile customers, including the vibe coding platform Replit, and is serving Fortune 500 companies in sectors such as finance. The new capital is intended to expand Restate's engineering team, grow its go-to-market operations, and increase its presence in the San Francisco Bay Area.
