Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, mentioned during a press conference in Seoul on September 9 that "co-production and research" regarding next-generation chips under development with Samsung Electronics is one of the areas where progress is being made. However, the specific types of chips, technical specifications, manufacturing processes, and mass production plans were not disclosed.
OpenAI Korea explained that these remarks referred to existing relationships, including Samsung's adoption of ChatGPT and a basic agreement announced in October 2025, and stated that there are no new announcements to be made. Samsung also stated that it cannot confirm information regarding its customers.
In June 2026, OpenAI announced "Jalapeño," its first custom inference accelerator developed jointly with Broadcom. inference refers to the process of processing inputs into a pre-trained AI model to generate responses. The manufacturing of Jalapeño is handled by TSMC.
The collaboration between the two companies spans various areas, including the consideration of memory supply, data center-related initiatives, and the implementation of enterprise AI. In October 2025, OpenAI announced strategic partnerships with Samsung and SK Hynix as part of its AI infrastructure plan, "Stargate."
