Amazon has blocked Meta’s Muse AI agent from shopping on its e-commerce platform on behalf of users, according to GeekWire. Muse users reported seeing a popup message stating that "continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use, to which our customers have agreed."
Amazon reportedly expressed privacy and security concerns regarding the agent, noting that Muse fails to identify itself while browsing and appears to capture customer credentials. An Amazon spokesperson told GeekWire that third-party applications offering to make purchases on behalf of customers should "operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate."
Meta had previously stated during Muse's launch earlier this month that the AI agent cannot access secure login details or card payment information. However, reports have emerged suggesting Muse can see the contents of user messages despite not having explicit permission enabled.
This move follows Amazon's recent efforts to restrict external AI services from accessing platform data. Since July, Amazon's confirmation emails have omitted specific item names and product images to limit information mining by external AI services. This action follows a similar legal effort by Amazon against Perplexity regarding its Comet shopping experience.
