Astral has announced that it has entered into an agreement to join OpenAI's Codex team. The company provides tools such as Ruff, uv, and ty, aimed at improving productivity in Python development.
These tools are reportedly recording hundreds of millions of downloads per month. Charlie Marsh, founder of Astral, stated that given how AI is changing the speed of software development, Codex is at the forefront of this shift.
Support for open-source tools will continue after the merger. In accordance with OpenAI's announcement, development will proceed in an open manner together with the community.
