Boston Dynamics and Google DeepMind have announced a new partnership to accelerate the implementation of AI in humanoid robots. This was announced on 2026-01-05 at CES 2026, currently being held in Las Vegas.

Under this collaboration, the Gemini Robotics foundation models developed by DeepMind will be integrated into Boston Dynamics' new Atlas robot. The goal is to improve the ability to perform a diverse range of industrial tasks.

Research and development will take place at both companies' facilities and is scheduled to begin within a few months. The initial application area is reported to be the automotive industry.

Alberto Rodriguez of Boston Dynamics said that they chose DeepMind as a partner capable of building vision-language-action models for complex robots. Since revealing its vision for commercial humanoids in 2024, the company has been accelerating development against the backdrop of evolving AI technology.

Carolina Parada of DeepMind explained that they have been developing models aimed at deploying AI into the physical world. Both companies explained the details of the partnership to the press during Hyundai Motor Group's CES media presentation.
