More than 100 organizations, including major AI firms such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, have signed an open letter calling for a coordinated global response to strengthen defenses against cyberattacks powered by generative AI.

In the letter, the signatory companies warn that critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and water treatment facilities, is at risk of becoming targets for AI-driven attacks. They further state that these situations could worsen as the performance of AI models improves, and they demand the following three actions:

First, that all organizations make cyber defense a top priority; second, that governments provide funding to protect critical infrastructure lacking sufficient personnel and budget; and third, that responses be coordinated at all levels to impose costs on attackers. In return, the AI companies have pledged to provide their best models to defense teams.

While many tech industry companies have signed the letter, Meta, xAI, and Chinese development firms are not among the signatories.
