It has been revealed that Meta's newly announced AI agent, "Muse," is using the social media account handles previously used by the British rock band Muse. According to a report by Engadget, the band's handles on Instagram and X have been changed to "@museband," while Meta's AI agent now uses handles such as "@Muse."

The exact circumstances regarding the change of account names have not been clarified. However, there have been past instances where platforms acquired existing accounts with similar names immediately preceding a major announcement by Meta. In 2021, during the company's name change from Facebook to Meta, an Instagram account used by a magazine of the same name came under the company's control. Similarly, in 2023, when Meta launched Threads, reports indicated that accounts with similar names were placed under the company's management.

While Meta does not permit the buying and selling of usernames on Instagram, no detailed explanation has been provided regarding this phenomenon where account names are swapped in conjunction with the launch of a major product. Some fans have expressed disappointment that the name of a band whose lyrical themes often address concerns about technology is being used for an AI feature.
