According to an investigation report by the Tech Transparency Project (TTP), 332 ads containing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) were published on Facebook and Instagram, both operated by Meta, since the beginning of this year. The majority of these ads promoted AI apps made in China, including promotions for apps known as "nudify" that use AI to process photos of real children into sexual videos.

The investigation reported cases where images of minors from European royal families and posted images from Instagram influencers were processed into videos depicting sexual acts and used as advertisements. Many of the ads used AI-processed videos based on photos of real children, and some ads directed users to apps capable of creating sexual content by processing photos of real people.

Meta has stated that it does not tolerate child exploitation or nudify apps, but the investigation pointed out that Meta's ad review system failed to detect this content. It was also revealed that the ads were widely distributed across the European Union (EU) and the UK. Currently, attorneys general from multiple U.S. states are investigating Meta's response.
