In early November, during an informal dinner at the Grand Hyatt Taipei with approximately 12 executives from Taiwanese technology companies, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang spoke about AI talent in China, stating, "One million people are working on this 24 hours a day. There are probably only 20,000 in Silicon Valley."
According to a leak to the FT, Huang criticized U.S. semiconductor export controls, saying, "Washington thinks it is stopping China, but it is not. It is accelerating China."
Since the Biden administration's restrictions on advanced chip exports to China in 2022, NVIDIA's sales to China for cutting-edge products have dropped from $17 billion to nearly zero, with a recorded loss of $5.5 billion following the suspension of H20 chip shipments. Huang himself estimates the lost sales opportunities due to these restrictions to be $15 billion.
