AWS announced on September 8, 2026, that GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's latest and most powerful model, is now generally available on Amazon Bedrock. The model operates on Amazon Bedrock's inference engine, providing high scalability and reliability.

GPT-6 Astra is designed for tasks requiring advanced inference and judgment, such as comparing competing inputs, tracking dependencies, and setting priorities. Specific use cases mentioned include detecting data inconsistencies in financial analysis, reviewing contracts using a context window of up to 1 million tokens, and software development across large codebases. Additionally, it features computer and browser utilization capabilities that allow it to operate across applications, even in the absence of APIs or connectors.

Regarding security, the model is evaluated as the first to reach a "Critical" classification in cybersecurity capabilities under OpenAI's Preparedness Framework. Protective measures, including real-time misuse monitoring and activity suspension, function within the Amazon Bedrock service boundary. Furthermore, inference data is not used for model training, and data is encrypted both in transit and at rest.
