[Series] Day 10 is a blank space—no release or reset, only GPT-5.5's "retirement" in the changelog
Here's today's rumor!
Day 10 is a blank space. No release and no reset has arrived.
Instead, what appeared in the changelog was the announcement that GPT-5.5 is retiring from Codex.
Day 10 (October 14 UTC), Wednesday. Tibo's (Thibault Sottiaux) "Day 10/" has still not appeared as of October 15, 01:07 (UTC)—one hour and seven minutes after the end of UTC Day 10. While Day 8's "Day 8/ Reset" arrived one hour and three minutes after the date changed, this delay has already exceeded that.
Only two posts from the man himself have been verified. Both were replies: the first was "👁️tibo👁️" at 00:33 (UTC), and the second was a reply to Charlie Marsh's "Apparently they're going to distill me at work tomorrow" at 01:57 (UTC).
@charliermarsh 😅

That's all for the content. There have been no posts from him for over 23 hours since then.
Okay, getting serious for a sec
| Item | Verified Information |
|---|---|
| Day 10's "Day" | No "Day 10/" post from the man himself. Codex Reset Monitor (third-party aggregate) lists his latest post as "😅" at October 15, 01:07 (UTC) on October 14, 01:57 (UTC). |
| Day 10's Reset | None. According to the same Monitor, the last confirmed reset was Day 8's "It's done" on October 13, 05:06 (UTC). |
| New changelog entries | On October 14, the ChatGPT & Codex changelog added "GPT-5.5 retirement in Codex." As of October 14, 12:00 (PDT, 19:00 UTC), GPT-5.5 will be retired from Codex for those signed in via ChatGPT. OpenAI API and Codex authenticated via API keys are unaffected. |
| Replacement after retirement | According to the Codex model description, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users will use GPT-6.1 Sol, while Free and Go users will use the GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app (where available). |
| Day 9 release record | There is no entry in the changelog for the Day 9 desktop app storage item yet. The entry prior to the October 14 one is dated October 9 (Codex CLI 0.162.1). |
Okay, serious time's over.
What arrived on a day when nothing was expected
Let me be fair here. Retiring an old model isn't an improvement; it's housekeeping. The retirement announcement didn't come with a "Day 10/" tag, and the man himself hasn't called this a Day 10 release. The replacement is also specified, so it doesn't affect API users.
Even so, if you line things up, here is how it looks. The promise was "One clear improvement every day, or a full reset." What appeared in the Day 10 changelog wasn't something added, but something removed. It's like it's your moving day, but instead of new furniture arriving, all you get is a schedule for when they'll pick up the old sofa. Most people probably aren't even sitting on that sofa anymore. Still, all that arrived was a collection notice.
His Day 10 consisted of a reply sandwiched between eye emojis and a reply with a sweat emoji. This was the day after someone wrote, "I'm going to drop something insane."
The blank in the promised cycle, the answer for Day 10
| Blank | What we learned on Day 10 |
|---|---|
| Day boundary | Even an hour and seven minutes after the UTC date change, there is no "Day 10/". This is later than Day 8, which arrived one hour and three minutes after the date change. If "Day 10/" shows up later, it will be the second time his personal daily cycle shifts later than UTC. |
| "Clear" criteria | There was no "clear improvement" called out by the man himself on Day 10. |
| The "Majority" population | The retirement announcement reaches Codex users who signed in via ChatGPT and selected GPT-5.5. This is not the population of "improvement" recipients. |
| Reset target and method | There was no reset on Day 10. It has been two days since the Day 8 reset. |
Sorami's Take
"The man will later claim it was the Day 10 release or reset": 55% certainty
Day 8's "Day 8/" arrived after the date change. While this time it's even later, it's hard to imagine him breaking his own 28-day counting method. However, it has already exceeded the Day 8 delay. It's slightly above a coin flip.
"A 'plan for everyone to use significantly more' will be announced by Day 28": 70% certainty
Same as last time. Nothing coming on Day 10 might be preparation to clear the plan "immediately," or it might be unrelated. I'm not moving this.
"The announcement of the next model to be retired will be counted as a release": 2% certainty
Just kidding.
Checking the answers
Last time's "Day 10 is a reset day": 50% certainty, was wrong. Far from a reset, nothing arrived. I predicted a reset would come next if they alternate. Rather than alternating, the line just stopped. Since I missed it by a coin flip, I'll keep my excuses brief.
Last time's "Storage amount will decrease by another 60% next time": 5% certainty, was also wrong. I'm relieved this one was incorrect.
"A 'plan for everyone to use significantly more' will be announced by Day 28: 70% certainty", "Day 7 is the day corresponding to the promised 'majority of users': 70% certainty", and "An announcement changing the shape of Pro's 5-hour limit and weekly amount will come by Day 28: 35% certainty" cannot be moved yet.
The running total after the end of UTC Day 10 is: 7 releases (Days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9), 4 resets (Day 2 mass reset, Day 3 holdover, Day 6 total reset, Day 8 total reset), 1 blank (Day 10), and 0 unconfirmed. I'll recount the blanks if he claims Day 10 later.
It's the first blank in 28 days. All that arrived was a collection notice.
Don't quote me on that.
