This improvement focused on systemic aspects—such as service loading, rendering, and input processing—rather than the training of the AI model itself. To achieve these improvements, a beta system called "Claude Tag" was utilized. This system involves Claude residing in Slack channels, repeating a cycle of measurement, optimization, deployment, and monitoring.
Claude identified latency points using logs and screenshots, created benchmarks to confirm issues, and repeatedly applied fixes. This process proceeded simultaneously across more than 150 threads, and on peak days, more than 200 improvements were reflected in the actual service per day.
As specific results, the time from opening the app to being able to input text on the web and desktop versions of claude.ai was reduced from 3.1 seconds to 0.55 seconds at the 75th percentile. Additionally, starting a new session in Claude Code was reduced from 0.8 seconds to 0.3 seconds, and message sending was shortened from 0.928 seconds to 0.048 seconds.
To ensure safety during the development process, all improvement pull requests underwent automated review and required approval from at least one human. Furthermore, "feature flags" were implemented for changes that could potentially affect users to allow for staged rollouts, with approximately 200 feature flags utilized.
