On February 2, the cybercrime division of the Paris prosecutor's office raided the French offices of Elon Musk's X. The investigation focuses on issues such as illegal data extraction and aiding and abetting the possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino have been summoned for questioning in April. X criticized the raid as an "aggressive act," claiming it threatens freedom of speech. Yaccarino also condemned it as "political retaliation against Americans."

Meanwhile, the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) announced on the same day that it has launched an investigation into Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, citing the "possibility of generating harmful sexual image and video content."

The investigation by French prosecutors began in January 2025 regarding X's algorithmic content recommendations and was expanded to include Grok in July of the same year.
